In June 2021, I was able to pay off my debt.

I was finally free from the financial pressure of credit card interests hammering down my neck. It was honestly one of the best feelings I’ve ever experienced.

But the process wasn’t a walk in the park. By the age of 30, I had managed to accumulate around $15,000 in debt.

But, before I continue, I would like to give a few disclaimers.

First, I am aware that compared to some people, $15,000 in credit card debt might seem like nothing. But I was single and living in Vancouver (where the cost of living and taxes are insanely high). Plus, I was working for a non-profit — so stretching every penny was a challenge.

And second, I want to be fully open that one of the reasons I was able to pay off my debt is because I am privileged. My mother paid for my higher education, and I was able to move in with her to save some money. Not everyone has the same options.

That said, if I had not adopted the strategies I will mention below, I would probably still be in debt and making rather questionable financial decisions.

So, without further ado…

7 Strategies I Used to Pay Off My Debt

1. Know your “Why.”
